Testimonials of Courage Dear Parents, For the longest time, my son Miles has been in search of a sport that he can call his own. Miles has played baseball, football, soccer, and has yet to call a sport his own until now! In February of 2008 Miles and I entered a building in Rockland MA. Known as the American Kempo Karate Academy. From the moment I walked into the academy I knew it was something special; as a former Drill instructor I understand the true meaning of discipline. After observing Ken Marks in his environment with his students and the looks of confidence on the young faces of his students after a hard but rewarding work out, his students wanted more. Miles wanted to join right then, however I needed to make sure he understood the type of commitment Instructor Marks expected from his students. Miles understood and has become a team member of Mr. Markss academy. Thus far Miles has earned his yellow belt and like me he is glad he joined. On May 3, 2008 Miles entered his first tournament and took 1st and 4th place in the tournament receiving trophies for each event. For the amount of money that I invested in my son, and the joy it brought to his face and our family it was absolutely priceless!! It is worth every single penny and Mr. Marks and his staff should be commended on a job well done of helping young lives. Finally within time if I can overcome a major injury I sustained leaving me disable, I would to like join myself seeing that he does work with people with disabilities.

Dear Mr. Weron,
We just wanted to write you a quick note to let you know how much fun Zachary had at the tournament this morning. We had asked Zach several times if he wanted to be in the tournament and he always said no. As you know he changed his mind just this last week. This morning he was nervous and worried about how he would do. Of course we told him to just do his best and have fun and that winning did not matter. Since Zach is small for his age we were worried when we saw the sizes of the other children he was up against. We were thrilled when Zachary won two of the three rounds in the padded sword (against all bigger children) to win second place. I had tears in my eyes after that event. Then Zach moved on to padded bow staff...against even bigger children. Zach received a "bye" and then went up against a boy at least twice his weight and double his height. Zach held his own although he lost that round. We were amazed when he was awarded second place for the event! Thanks to the judges for scoring the way the do! We are so proud of Zachary for giving what we feel was 110% effort! Zach left the tournament feeling happy, confident, succesful and as large as life. This was just what he needed! You see, this year in school Zach has been bullied unrelentlessly. This has included horrific verbal abuse, intimidation, threats, and even physical assaults. Just yesterday(Friday) I was again on the phone with the principal regarding more verbal assaults. All these incidents have really hurt Zach's self esteem and pride and made school and home life difficult. You just gave him back his self esteem, pride and so much more. Zach has always been very self conscience of himself because of his size, lack of athletic abilities, asthma, attention deficit disorder and anxiety. Karate is helping him with all of this and we are seeing him make great improvements. Thank you for working 1:1 with Zach every week, and for being his sensei. He truly loves going to karate at AKKA.and loves working with you. He also loves working with Mike and the older children/teens that assist. Every time he comes home from karate he says he has had a blast. He also really enjoyed the one day boot camp last month. He did not want to go...but when he came home and I asked him how it was he replied, "Awesome", with a huge smile. Thank you again for working with Zach, and please thank Mike and all the assistants as well. Please know that what you are teaching him goes way beyond just "karate". We look forward to continuing to be part of AKKA.
Sincerely, Joy and David Catron Zachary Catron's parents
